Combine a history lesson of the Olympic torch with the social skill of "rewarding yourself" for students in grades 5 through 10.
The purpose of this activity is that students will learn to adopt and practice a new good habit that displays grit, determination, and perseverance. Over time, students will display persistence in attaining their new good habit, even if they experience some degree of failure. In turn, they will experience delayed gratification and exercise the privilege of rewarding themselves.
This exercise if part of Tamara Zentic's GRIT & Bear It! Activity Guide and is recommended for grades 5-10.
